Kala and Joe | A Lancaster Engagement

Overlook Park, Lancaster, PA

I’m especially excited about sharing this post today…and not just because the photos turned out so amazing! Sure, the weather was beautiful and the light was golden, but I’m excited because Kala and Joe are such good friends of ours! I first met Kala at the York Ice Skating Arena.  She’s an amazing figure skater in the York area, and she had been teaching my family lessons for a while. I decided to take a risk and try something new, so I asked for a few lessons. When I found out that Kala was interested in photography, we found a way to help each other out.  Now Kala has her own photography business! Although she’s a great teacher, my aspirations for figure skating weren’t as successful as her natural talent for photography! 😉

Most people would feel a little nervous taking pictures of a great photographer like Kala, but at her and Joe’s engagement session, we were all at ease. They’re both naturals in front of the camera and the love they have for each other is so obvious. We all enjoyed the gorgeous day and took some amazing photos. I especially love the shots in the field…they’re such a loving and fun couple and you can see that in the images.

Joe and Kala’s story began in high school, where they met as teenagers.  They didn’t really form a friendship until a few years later that when Joe sent her a Facebook message asking her on a date. His eagerness to go out with her, along with his cute messages finally won her heart and she agreed to go out with him. It was an instant attraction, and Kala knew on that first date that there was something really special about Joe.  Since they both were looking for long term relationships, they slowly grew a beautiful friendship which blossomed into a solid love that will last a lifetime.

Over six years later, the day came that Kala had waited so patiently for.  At one of her favorite places in the world, the Outer Banks, Joe got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife! It was the happiest day of her life. And this summer, they’ll go back to NC and say their vows at a beautiful beach wedding. I’m so excited to be their wedding photographer. This will be my first beach wedding and I know the photos will be even more stunning than their engagement images! Congratulations on your engagement, Joe and Kala! I can’t wait to document your special day!
